Capturing Nature's Beauty
The Manasquan Reservoir in Howell Township, New Jersey, isn’t just a water supply—it’s a treasure trove for photography enthusiasts like me. Built in the early 1990s by damming a small tributary of the Manasquan River, this stunning location flooded over 800 acres of forest, farms, and pastures. Instead of clearing the trees, planners left them standing to support wildlife. This decision transformed the area into a visually unforgettable masterpiece.

My Personal Journey
I lived just a few miles away from the reservoir. Many mornings, I’d brew a strong pot of coffee and drive out before dawn. Watching the sun rise through the silent, skeletal trees became a cherished ritual. The reflections, colors, and eerie stillness turned this place into my personal photography classroom. It’s where I practiced, failed, learned, and slowly got better.
I remember those early mornings vividly. The air was crisp, and the world felt like it was just waking up. I’d set up my camera, heart racing with anticipation. Each click of the shutter was a step toward capturing the beauty around me.
Eventually, I started sharing some of these shots online. One woman wrote to tell me she’d driven three hours from Philadelphia just to witness what I captured in a photo. That’s the kind of message that stays with you. It’s a reminder of how powerful photography can be.
The Art of Photography
Photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s about telling stories. Each image I captured at the reservoir tells a tale of nature’s beauty and tranquility. The interplay of light and shadow, the vibrant colors of dawn, and the stillness of the water all contribute to the narrative.
I often find myself lost in the moment, completely absorbed in the scene before me. It’s a meditative experience. The world fades away, and it’s just me, my camera, and the breathtaking landscape.

The Impact of Nature on Art
Nature has a profound impact on art. It inspires creativity and evokes emotions. The Manasquan Reservoir, with its serene beauty, has been a constant source of inspiration for me. Each visit brings new perspectives and ideas.
I often find myself experimenting with different techniques and styles. The changing seasons offer a fresh canvas. In spring, the vibrant greens burst forth. Summer brings lush foliage, while autumn paints the landscape in warm hues. Winter, with its stark beauty, transforms the scene into a quiet wonderland.
